Ariana Grande Dethrones Selena Gomez as Most Followed Woman on Instagram

The battle of the Instagram followers continues, and although we're pretty sure neither Ariana Grande or Selena Gomez really care how big their social media pages are, they've come in competition with each other on this platform.

Though the most followed person on IG is Cristiano Ronaldo at a whopping 155 million followers, both Ari and Selena follow close behind. And as Elle has discovered, the "Thank U, Next" singer has officially crossed the singer/actress, as while both stars have 146 million displayed as their follower count, the numbers to the thousands differ.

At the time of this article, Ariana has 146,298,838 followers on the 'Gram.

And right behind her is Selena, who still has an impressive 146,271,035 followers. So close!

Ariana's follower count certainly has something to do with the fact that she put out two albums, Sweetener and Thank U, Next, within two months of each other, released multiple music videos, and is starting her Sweetener World Tour on March 18. It's interesting, however, that Ari does not do any paid partnerships on IG, meaning she isn't getting paid to post (that we know of). Most celebrities do this, even Selena.

Following Ari and Selena in the followers race comes the likes of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift. Why Ronaldo takes the number one spot is beyond me, but we're sure one of these ladies will dethrone him eventually. Probably Ariana.
