Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) was no stranger to twists and turns with love on Friends, but none of her dating adventures had fans on the edge of their seats more than the love triangle between Mike (Paul Rudd) and David (Hank Azaria) in Season 9. Fans didn’t know what guy Phoebe was going to choose, and as it turns out, Friends creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman weren’t totally sure either.

RadioTimes reports that Crane recently admitted the showrunners were just as torn between the charming pianist and the awkward scientist as Phoebe was. He revealed of Phoebe possibly picking David:

“There was definitely a possibility of that. I mean, we didn’t definitively know [who she’d end up with]. They’re both amazing actors. I mean, both Paul and Hank are fantastic, and fantastic with her. We sort of went back and forth. I don’t even remember all the pieces that led to where we landed, but yeah, it could have gone the other way. Phoebe would have been great with either one.”

While it is true that David and Phoebe’s love story was just as sweet as her and Mike’s, at the end of the day, Mike was her Lobster. The two were wed by Joey (Matt LeBlanc), the one who set them up in the first place, at a snowy outdoor ceremony in front of Central Perk in Season 12.

We hope that Mr. Crap Bag and Ms. Princess Consuela Banana Hammock lived happily ever after.
