The age-old Marvel vs DC debate was given a new twist when both franchises launched their own cinematic universes--the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe.

Both film franchises have achieved major success, with the rivals racking up billions of dollars thanks to box office successes. However, when it comes to which franchise is better, the common answer is the MCU.

The MCU not only has 22 released films relative to the DCEU's seven, which obviously means it's made billions of more dollars, but it also has received more critical success, with its most recent release, Avengers: Endgame, having a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, the DCEU still has its defenders who believe its movies are up to par with the MCU's. Jared Leto, who starred in the DCEU film Suicide Squad, is defending the film franchise and claims it is just as good as MCU films.

"Oh, I think it has, just ask [Aquaman lead] Jason Momoa," Leto told Variety when asked why the DCEU wasn't as prosperous as the MCU. "I think Wonder Woman was one of the more exciting things ever to happen, it was phenomenal. It was a beautiful performance. I think the DC world has been pretty great for a long time. You can't win every single time. But I think they're doing just fine. People loved Shazam!, I haven't seen it yet. People really loved that film."

"I think DC is...doing okay, man," Leto continued. Even though there are some fans that share the Joker actor's feelings, most believe his assessment of both universes is laughable.

Leto's claim is a pretty far stretch. The DCEU has given audiences a few stinkers over the past six years, with three of its films having a score of less than 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, even the MCU films that are considered the franchise's worst, were still well-received by fans and given mainly positive reviews.

The Academy Award-winning actor also revealed that he's open to reprising his role as the Joker, which was one of the few things that was praised about 2016's Suicide Squad.

“I would definitely play the Joker again,” Leto said. “It all depends on the script and the circumstances, as it always does."
