Luke Skywalker has a place in every Star Wars fan's heart. After he disappeared from the screen in The Last Jedi, fans were devastated to see him go. He is presumed dead, but it is possible we may see the Jedi master again.
Many are hoping for a film that explores Luke’s younger days, like Solo: A Star Wars Story does for Han Solo. Who would play young Skywalker, though? The original Skywalker, Mark Hamill, already has someone in mind.
Hamill revealed to Variety the casting for the hypothetical film would depend on where the story picked up on Luke’s life. However, if they were to go back really far, he would choose Jacob Tremblay.
"It depends on what point in Luke's life that you would have him be in the movie," Hamill said, adding, "Because at first I’m thinking ... the whole point of Luke was that he was bored silly with his life. All he was doing was bulls eyeing wamp rats in his T-16. Now, if they could do now where they have five or six plots and you're cutting around what's going on all around him and they keep cutting back to a really young Luke, I thought, 'The one I love is Jacob Tremblay.'"
Tremblay is only 11 years old, but he’s already received a lot of attention for his great acting in the thriller Room. What’s even better is he’s a huge Star Wars fan and freaked out when he had the opportunity to meet Hamill at the premiere of The Book of Henry last year.
Tremblay would be a perfect fit to play the young Skywalker! However, another actor is also interested in the role.
Avengers: Infinity War actor Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky in the film, announced at the Rhode Island Comic Con he would be more than happy to play Luke. "I just want to say here that anytime anyone would like to call me and ask me about Luke Skywalker I'd be very happy [to play him]," Stan said.
Hamill seems to be quite alright with the decision as well. "Well everyone is crazy about Sebastian Stan," Hamill said, adding, "I was flattered ... he's way more handsome than I am." The two have created an awesome friendship from the fan demand to have Stan play a young Skywalker. Hamill even calls him his "son!"
