After 14 seriously tear-jerking seasons of Grey's Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes really knows how to take us on an emotional rollercoaster. Between all the love and loss, there have only been a few deaths in the medical drama that still make us keep our tissue box close. These are the five heartbreaking Grey's Anatomy deaths we still can't get over.
1. Derek Shepherd
It all started as a casual one-night-stand, but it certainly didn't end that way. It's hard to swallow the idea of a show without Meredith and McDreamy together, but after the doctor pretty much survived every possible obstacle, he eventually went out in a car crash. As if that wasn't heartbreaking enough, they really pulled on our heartstrings by making Meredith the one to take him off life-support. Although the she peacefully said her goodbyes, we are still having a hard time getting over this one.
2. George O'Malley
Poor George O'Malley, always trailing behind the rest of the gang. We loved him though, he was the favorable underdog you couldn't help but love. Although, some underdogs don't always make it. The audience was in for a huge shock when George died by jumping in front of a bus to save another woman's life. Especially since the majority of the episode he was a unidentifiable John Doe, it was even more traumatizing. Ugh, why George, we were rooting for you.
3. Adele Webber
Ah, sweet Adele. This is one of those sad ones you know is coming, but still can't bare to watch. Although the show had multiple characters suffer from Alzheimer's, it is particularly heartbreaking to watch Adele slowly start to deteriorate. After years of marriage between her and Richard, his reaction to her death is even harder to watch.
4. Lexie Grey
Meredith's half-sister Lexie died after a fatal plane in Season 8. The crash had Lexie, Derek, Meredith, Mark, Cristina and Arizona on board. After the crash, the characters were scattered amongst the wreckage and Lexie was trapped under a large part of the plane. Mark tried to save her, but it was too late. Lexie went out after the two confessed their love for one another.
5. Mark Sloan
McSteamy was one of the best eye-candies on the show and he also gave Derek some competition. Lexie and Mark's relationship must have been true love, because after Lexie died, Mark died from the plane crash as well. Although Lexie's was on the spot, Mark suffered from internal injuries that were irreversible. At least they are together again.
