With the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: Episode IX, hitting theaters later this year, fans are more than excited to see how our favorite characters come together again for perhaps the last time. As for Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill, he met his demise at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and while we know he’ll still appear in the new film, we’re not sure at what capacity. And in regards to Leia Organa, played by the late Carrie Fisher, all we know is that she will be in Episode IX through unused footage from the previous two films. It’s likely we’ll be seeing Luke and Leia together for the last time in the next installment, which makes the anticipation for it all the more emotional.
And adding to that emotion is Hamill, of course, who takes to Twitter frequently to share random tidbits of Star Wars history. This past weekend, the legendary actor shared a particularly sweet memory from The Last Jedi, where a scene between he and Fisher was actually unscripted.
When a fan shared a clip from behind-the-scenes filming for TLJ where Luke kisses Leia on the forehead and the two share an emotional moment with their goodbyes, Hamill jumped in and added some insight.
An emotionally charged day on set filming this because, knowing he was about to sacrifice his life for the greater good, Luke was saying goodbye... forever. The kiss was unscripted & spontaneous in the moment, summarizing his/my feelings in a way words could never have conveyed. https://t.co/l6Ap50WO8U— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) March 3, 2019
“The kiss was unscripted & spontaneous in the moment, summarizing his/my feelings in a way words could never have conveyed,” Hamill revealed. This clearly makes the moment all the more special for both Hamill and for Star Wars fans.
We’ll see how both characters are portrayed in the next installment when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on Dec. 20, 2019.
