Kim and Kanye received a ton of backlash on social media for the decision, with most saying this was the ultimate example of their privilege.

Kim and Kanye hired private firefighters to protect their home.
Besides online backlash, the couple also received criticism from officials, who said that the private team actually made their job harder. Reportedly, the private firefighters “didn’t obtain permission from authorities to enter the threatened upscale neighborhood that had been placed under mandatory evacuation."
On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kim weighed in on the situation. “I feel like we were really blessed to have the help of the firefighters that we did. Our house is right on the end of a big park, so the whole park had caught fire and if our house went, then every other house would go," Kim told Ellen.
Kim explained that she hired the team based on a recommendation by a friend who had recently lost their home due to a Santa Barbara fire.
"They saved our home and saved our neighborhood," Kim said. "I had them just make sure that they controlled every house on the edge, so it wasn’t just my home that I said 'just take care of our home.' Take care of everything, because, once they go, once ours starts, the whole neighborhood can go."
After discussing the situation, Kim and Ellen announced that KKW would be giving donations to the California Fire Foundation, the California Community Foundation, and to a firefighter who lost his home, on behalf of Kanye, Yeezy, and Adidas.
