Earlier this week, Chris Evans was trending nonstop on social media after the actor shared a heartfelt message with fans that apparently marked the end of his Marvel Cinematic Universe career with the end of his filming for Avengers 4.

"Officially wrapped on Avengers 4," he tweeted. "It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful."

Evans' goodbye to the role of Captain America is obviously devastating to fans.

It's been really rough out here for the Marvel fandom.

And his Avengers costars are also responding to the goodbye message -- including Evans' biggest costar, Robert Downey, Jr. RDJ, who plays Iron Man, posted a tweet yesterday saying goodbye to Evans.

The image features Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear and Woody as Iron Man and Captain America, with "To Infinity War And Beyond" at the top in a play on Buzz's "to infinity and beyond."

Evans responded with a simple message, giving subtle praise to Downey with a crown emoji.

Downey and Evans' relationship is as pure as it gets.

Of course, you can still see Evans one final time as Captain America in Avengers 4 next year.
