Following the explosive end to 'Avengers: Infinity War,' the as-yet untitled 'Avengers 4' will have to pull out all the stops to surprise audiences. One theory that has been floating around online is that, somehow, the film will find a way to reintegrate Thor's former love interest, Jane Foster, into the narrative.

The logic of the theory rests on the conclusion of 'Ant-Man and the Wasp,' which left Ant-Man trapped in the microscopic quantum realm. Fans of 'Thor: The Dark World,' however, remembered they'd heard a similar term before. Specifically, when Jane called an Asgardian medical device a "quantum field generator."

The theory states that Jane will be called in to use her knowledge of quantum and particle physics to save Ant-Man and, through the magic of science-fiction, use the quantum energy to send the remaining Avengers back in time to fix the events of Thanos' snap.

Although Natalie Portman, who played Jane Foster in the first two 'Thor' films, had sworn off Marvel after Patty Jenkins was let go as director of 'The Dark World,' she shared earlier this year that she would be open to returning to the character. "I'm completely open to everything, but I have no news about that," she said when asked if she'd reprise her role.

We'll see if and how the heroes come back when 'Avengers 4' hits theaters May 3, 2019.
