9 'Star Wars: Episode IX' Rumors Confirmed True So Far

With filming for Star Wars: Episode IX being well underway, photo leaks and rumors have been flying left and right, and it's only natural for fans to wonder if anything we've been hearing is true.

Everything from set location to casting has been questioned lately, but here are nine Episode IX rumors that have been confirmed as true so far.

1. 'Episode IX' will end the Skywalker saga

No matter how sad or in denial we may be about this fact, Episode IX will be the official end to the Skywalker saga.

Although in the last few films some significant characters have met their demise, the final installment is sure to give Star Wars fans a chance to see old characters one last time and welcome new ones for future projects.

2. J.J. Abrams will direct

Despite initially denying rumors he would be coming back to direct another Star Wars film, Disney confirmed Abrams would return for Episode IX, after he decided "he wanted to be the one in charge of telling the last story in the Skywalker saga."

3. Unseen footage of Carrie Fisher will be used

OK, if you've been paying attention to any news in the Star Wars franchise lately, you probably knew this one already.

Carrie Fisher will still be the face we know and love as Princess Leia, only her character's parts in Episode IX will have to be fulfilled by unreleased footage from previous films, such as The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens.

4. 'Episode IX' will be the last film John Williams scores

You know the music for pretty much every major moment in Star Wars history? Anakin's song, the moment Rey met BB-8, the Imperial march and of course the iconic Star Wars theme? Well, we can all thank John Williams for composing those.

At 82 years old, Williams announced that Episode IX will be the last film he does before he retires.

5. Rey and Finn will reunite

Rey and Finn were practically inseparable once they met in The Force Awakens, but were separated and building their own storylines in The Last Jedi.

John Boyega (Finn) said earlier this year that after Daisy Ridley (Rey) read the script, she texted him, "OMG we’re together again," so we can expect to see more of this duo in Episode IX.

6. Mark Hamill will return

Similar to the confirmation of J.J. Abrams directing and Carrie Fisher's role being reprised, if you've been up-to-date on anything Episode IX, you know that Mark Hamill is part of the official cast list.

We know he became one with the Force at the end of The Last Jedi, and though there's no confirmation about how Hamill will return, many are speculating it will be as something along the lines of a Force ghost.

7. Poe, Finn and Chewbacca go on a mission

Leaked photos from a couple of weeks back confirm that Poe, Finn and Chewbacca team up for a mission. We know that's not much to go off of, but it does give us clues as to what these three will be up to.

8. Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role of Lando

Lando Calrissian has been MIA from the last couple of Star Wars films, but Williams will be back to reprise his role for Episode IX.

Lando is a good friend of Han Solo and spent time with him even before Han met Leia. Fans were stumped when Lando didn't appear in the new trilogy, but thankfully we'll seeing him this time around. Better late than never!

9. 'Episode IX' will not change anything from 'The Last Jedi'

Some fans were really convinced that their negative opinions about The Last Jedi would cause Disney or Abrams to change things in Episode IX, but it seems the director can't be bothered to even give it a second thought.

Abrams was asked how the backlash would influence Episode IX, to which he responded, "Not in the least."

Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters Dec. 2019!
