Major news for Star Wars fans and basically any fan of popular sci-fi films and TV shows!

Dominic Monaghan, best known for his fan-favorite roles as Charlie in J.J. Abrams' series Lost, and Merry in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films, is now joining the ranks of another beloved franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Monaghan will be joining Star Wars: Episode IX, the untitled, final film in the Luke Skywalker saga. His role is unknown at this point.

The actor has been very vocal with his desire to appear in a Star Wars film, and has spoken about letting Abrams know after the director signed up for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). However, Abrams told Monaghan he was building a cast of unknown actors, similar to what George Lucas did with the stars of the original 1997 film.

As far as what'll happen in Episode IX, it's all up for speculation for now. But, we do know Mark Hamill will be reprising his role of Luke Skywalker, and the late Carrie Fisher will be included in the film as Leia Organa, with unused footage from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (2017).

This casting news just adds to the excitement we have for the next episode!
