Stranger Things has been a hit ever since it debuted on Netflix in 2016. The show is a coming of age story for many of the beloved characters. It's a mystery, with supernatural elements, comedy, and romance. But it's also known for being rather dark.

Well, as previously reported, Stranger Things 3 is expected to be the darkest season yet. “I can only promise you that Season 3 eventually goes places that are darker and unquestionably more action-packed than we’ve ever gone before,” producer Shawn Levy had shared. "It would be a mistake for anyone to think that Season 3 is the summer of fun and lightness because it’s a whole lot more than that."

Many, however, have taken his quote a little too far. One article wrote that the upcoming season
will be anything but a 'summer of fun and lightness.'"
But Shawn has taken to Twitter to set the record straight.

"To clarify (and then I am shutting UP!)— there’s plenty of summer fun AND light," he wrote. "But there’s also a WHOLE LOT more...Hang in there guys. It’s gonna be worth the wait. Promise."

Shawn has previously called himself a "walking spoiler risk," so he probably won't be sharing much else. Though we've gotten a teaser trailer, the show is still in filming, so we'll have to wait a bit before we can see exactly what balance of fun and darkness Hawkins will have.

Stranger Things is set to return in summer 2019!
