Everyone is warned before they get a tattoo that the ink is going to be permanent. No matter what you're feeling in the moment, you should probably step back and really think long and hard about something that's going to be on your body forever.
But just like any human, celebrities make mistakes. Here are 16 of the absolute worst celeb tattoos. Try not to cringe too hard.
16. Karreuche Tran's Zipper
Actress and model Karrueche Tran has a very long tattoo of a zipper going up her right leg. It seems to resemble a seam of old fashioned stockings, but she has not confirmed any meaning behind the tat.
15. Britney Spears' Misinterpreted Chinese Character
Unfortunately for Britney Spears, the small tattoo she got by her hip does not mean what she intended it to. Thinking the character meant "mysterious," Britney actually got "strange" tattooed on her. Thankfully, it's tiny!
14. Hayden Panettiere's Misspelled Quote
Again with a silly mistake, actress Hayden Panettiere attempted to get "Live Without Regrets" in Italian going down her side, but got it misspelled. It reads "Vivere senza rimpianti," when the last word should be "rimipianti." Thankfully, it was said in 2013 she was going to have it removed.
13. Audrina Patridge's Snake Wrapped Around an Apple
Reality star Audrina Patridge has a very colorful image of a snake wrapped around an apple on the back of her neck. She's spoken about the tattoo in the past, explaining, "My tattoo is a heart with four chambers that turns into an apple with a snake around it, it symbolizes the story of Adam and Eve… and also temptation and destiny." We get it, but we don't necessarily love it!
12. Kevin Durant's Misspelled Bible Verse
NBA star Kevin Durant proudly took to Instagram in 2013 to show off his massive back tattoo, but fans quickly noticed a spelling mistake in the lengthy bible verse. Instead of it reading "mature" towards the bottom, it seemingly reads "mautre." Yikes!
11. Melanie Griffith's Ex's Name
It should probably be illegal to get a significant other's name tattooed on you, considering how many of those couples break up and are left living with the reminder etched on their skin. In this case, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas were married for 18 years and still didn't make it. Melanie had "Antonio" tattooed on her arm inside of a heart, and has since gotten it removed.
10. Stephen Baldwin's Hannah Montana Initials
Even when you get someone's name tattooed that isn't your significant other, it can still be a bit cringe-worthy. Actor Stephen Baldwin reportedly had a pact with Miley Cyrus, in which he would get Hannah Montana's initials inked on him. Well, at least we know he keeps his promises!
9. Nick Cannon's Ex's Name
And if you do decide to get your significant other's name tatted, maybe try doing it discretely. You probably shouldn't get their name in huge letters across your back, but that's exactly what Nick Cannon did when he was with Mariah Carey. Since, however, Nick has gotten his ex-wife's name covered up with other various tattoos, but it still doesn't look great.
8. Amanda Seyfried's Dirty Word
The most bizarre celebrity tattoo definitely goes to actress Amanda Seyfried, who has dirty British slang in cursive on her foot. Claiming her fellow cast mates on the Mamma Mia! set used to always say the word "minge," meaning a woman's pubic hair or genitals, Amanda must've loved it, because she got it tatted. Weird.
7. Snooki's Winged Cat
Jersey Shore's Nicole Polizzi, AKA Snooki, has a winged leopard-looking animal wearing a crown on her arm, said to be in honor of her late cat. The intentions behind it is sweet, but the execution went terribly, terribly wrong.
6. Angelina Jolie's Ex's Name
We all know Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton's relationship was far from normal, as the two famously wore vials of each other's blood as necklaces. Angelina also got a tattoo in honor of her man- a simple "Billy Bob" above a dragon. Thankfully, she has since covered it up with the coordinates of where her kids were born. That's way better.
5. Mike Tyson's Tribal Design
In 2003, Mike Tyson got his iconic face tattoo- a tribal sign around his left eye. According to Tyson, the ink represents his "warrior status," inspired by the Māori tribe, who wore the design to scare people in battle. He also said he got it simply because it was "cool." Eh, we don't really agree!
4. Gucci Mane's Ice Cream Cone
Gucci Mane has an ice cream cone along with the words "Brrr" on his right cheek. According to a spokesperson for the rapper, the tattoo is a "reminder to fans of how he chooses to live his life. Cool as ice." Well, that's one way to remind them...
3. T-Pain's Facebook Message
T-Pain got a Facebook logo inked, reading, "You don't have to like me." He joked on Twitter, where he originally posted the photo, "I think this ones pretty sweet, unless facebook shuts down soon 0_o." Facebook has had its share of controversy this year, but it still hasn't shut down, so T-Pain should be happy.
2. Steve-O's Self Portrait
Unsurprisingly, knowing Steve-O, the prankster has a self-portrait on his back, along with the words, "Yeah dude, I rock!" There's really not much to say about this one, except... wow.
1. Chris Brown's 'Rihanna' Face
The worst celebrity tattoo of all time just has to go to Chris Brown, who has a neck tattoo of a seemingly beaten up woman. Obviously, many have attributed this to his physical abuse of ex-girlfriend Rihanna, even finding resemblance between the ink and the singer. Just shameful.
