Avengers: Infinity War was jam-packed with Marvel heroes, so much so that many of our favorite stars only got a few minutes of screen time. For that reason, the writers for the franchise's next film decided to shy away from any ambitious crossovers.

“The idea was that this really wanted to be a little bit more standalone and in its own world,” Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed shared"We knew that we wanted to continue the story of these characters and then introduce our won characters that were really far more relevant to the story we were telling... Plus the fact that we were coming right after Infinity War, which is really like everyone. With the exception of Ant-Man and the Wasp and, of course, Hawkeye."

However, that wasn't always the plan for this movie. Earlier versions of Ant-Man and the Wasp had a Captain America cameo taking place within one of Luis' iconic explanation scenes.

“Early on, we had a version where we were going to do a quick version of the tarmac fight from Civil War, with some ridiculous thing where, you know, Captain America has Ant-Man as a baseball and throws him,” Peyton said. “Because the whole thing is Luis’ version of events, right? We came up with all these ridiculous visuals.”

The scene was eventually removed, and the film really did stand on its own. Other than that mid-credits scene. We wish we could've seen the cameo, but we'll see more of Ant-Man and Captain America when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
