There are many big fights we need to see in Season 8 of Game of Thrones, but Cleganebowl is definitely the biggest. The highly anticipated showdown between brothers Sandor and Gregor Clegane (aka The Hound and The Mountain) has been suggested since the first season, but was recently teased by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who plays The Mountain on the show.
During an Instagram Q&A over the weekend, one fan asked him, "What was your favorite GoT scene to be in?" He responded, "It happens in Season 8… so I can’t speak about it."
Fans are absolutely certain this is referring to Cleganebowl, especially considering how things were left between the brothers, and their entire backstory. When the boys were younger, Sandor was playing with his older brother's toy, and Gregor decided to punish him by holding his head into a fire. Sandor was ultimately left with scars on the right half of his face, and a great fear of fire.
Our first glimpse of the sibling fight was in Season 1. Gregor lost to Ser Loras in a joust and attacked him. Sandor then intervened and the two began a brief fight, before being stopped by King Robert.
We've seen the strength of The Hound throughout the show, seeing him evolve into a more caring and heroic character. The Mountain, on the other hand, is known for killing Prince Rhaegar's children Rhaenys and Aegon, then raping and murdering his wife Elia Martell. He later fought Elia's brother Prince Oberyn Martell, and both were killed in combat. However, Qyburn eventually brought The Mountain back to life to join the Kingsguard and serve Cersei.
In Season 7, The Hound saw his brother for the first time after the "resurrection," and noticed The Mountain's incredibly red eyes and blue skin. "Remember me?" Sandor asked. "Yeah, you do. You're even f**king uglier than I am now. What did they do to you? Doesn't matter. That's not how it ends for you, brother. You know who's coming for you. You've always known."
