14 Upcoming Movie Release Dates for Disney and Their Franchises

​We all love a good Disney film. Whether it's Finding Nemo, Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Cinderella, or Maleficent, we always need more. And with all the different studios that Disney owns, there's definitely lots to come.

Here's a list of 14 of the most anticipated upcoming Disney films and their release dates.

1. Christopher Robin

Christopher Robin is Disney's next live-action film, which will tell the story of an adult Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor), who revisits the Hundred Acre Wood, and reunites with Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and the rest of his old friends.

Release date: August 3, 2018

2. Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

In this exciting sequel to Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph and Vanellope will journey outside their games and will take on the internet—a bustling city like nothing they've ever seen—as they search for a spare part to fix their game.

Release Date: November 21, 2018

3. Mary Poppins Returns

This exciting sequel will take place in the 1930s, starting directly after the 1964 original. The role of Mary Poppins, for which won Julie Andrews an Academy Award, will be portrayed by Emily Blunt, and the film will feature Lin-Manuel Miranda, with director Rob Marshall (Chicago).

Release Date: December 25, 2018

4. Captain Marvel

This next Marvel project is its first-ever female hero solo film. Set in the 1990s, it details the rise of one of the world's most powerful superheroes: Captain Marvel. Her story will help set up  what's to come for the rest of the heroes in the upcoming Avengers 4.

Release Date: March 8, 2019

5. Dumbo

This live-action remake of the 1941 classic will tell the story of circus owner named Max Medici (Danny DeVito), who enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children to care for a newborn elephant with oversized ears that make him the laughingstock of an already struggling circus. 

Release Date: March 29, 2019

6. Avengers 4

This next Marvel film, is a sequel to the tragic Avengers: Infinity War, and is currently untitled. It will feature our original Avengers fighting Thanos, and trying to bring back our fallen heroes. Spoiler alert: they will succeed.

Release Date: May 3, 2019

7. Aladdin

This live-action version of one of our favorite princess movies will take us to a whole new world. Mena Massoud will take on the role of Aladdin, Jasmine will be played by Naomi Scott, and Will Smith will portray our beloved Genie. 

Release Date: May 24, 2019

8. Toy Story 4

We just can't get enough of Woody and the gang! We aren't sure what this next film will be about but we know Tom Hanks will be returning to voice our favorite sheriff in town. 

Release Date: June 21, 2019

9. Spider-Man: Far From Home

This sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming will feature a Peter Parker on vacation. Filming just started, and we don't know much, but we do know it will star Tom Holland, meaning Spider-Man has to come back to us during Avengers 4.

Release Date: July 5, 2019

10. The Lion King

This is perhaps the most highly anticipated live-action movies in history. With an incredibly stacked cast, the film has been in the works for a while. It will feature Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver as Zazu, and James Earl Jones, reprising the role of Mufasa. 

Release Date: July 19, 2019

11. Frozen 2

The sequel to Disney's hit Frozen is still in the works, and much of the plot is unknown. But we do know that Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad will be returning for their roles as Anna, Elsa, and Olaf. And we can't wait!

Release Date: November 27, 2019

12. Star Wars: Episode IX

The next installment of the Star Wars franchise will be directed by The Last Jedi's J.J Abrams and may feature appearances from Billy Dee Williams (Lando) and Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan). We'll have to wait and see!

Release Date: December 20, 2019

13. Indiana Jones 5

The newest film in the hit series will continue following Indiana Jones and his adventures. Harrison Ford will be almost 79 when it hits theaters, but we can't wait to see him reprise the role.

Release Date: July 9, 2021

14. Maleficent 2

Disney's live-action film Maleficent told the story of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the villain, adding a dark and mysterious tone to the film. In the upcoming sequel, Angelina Jolie will reprise her role and will be joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michelle Pfeiffer.
