While Marvel actor Djimon Hounsou is set to reprise his role as Korath from Guardians of the Galaxy in the upcoming Captain Marvel, the actor will reportedly, according to Entertainment Weekly, also join the cast of Shazam!, a DC property, as a 3,000-year-old Wizard.

The role was previously announced to be played by Ron Cephus Jones (This Is Us), who left due to a "scheduling conflict." Filming for Shazam! has already wrapped-up, meaning Hounsou has already shot the role, and the announcement of his replacement for Jones as the Wizard has only surfaced now.

In the original comics, the Wizard who gave the hero his abilities was actually known as "Shazam," with the hero called "Captain Marvel." Following legal disputes about the character's similarities to Superman, Captain Marvel had to cease production in the 1950s, before returning in the '70s to find that Marvel Comics had been publishing their own, unrelated character under the name "Captain Marvel."

Due to trademark conflicts, DC had to adapt their hero to the name "Shazam," with the wizard referred to as simply, "The Wizard."

Therefore, Hounsou will technically appear in both "Captain Marvel" films in 2019. He'll join Zachary Levi (Chuck) as the lead and Mark Strong (Kingsman) as Dr. Sivana.

Hitting theaters on April 5th, 2019, Shazam! centers around a 14-year-old boy who gains the ability to turn into a grown-up superhero by simply saying the name of the old wizard who gave him his powers, "Shazam." Honsou will also appear on screen one month before, as Korath in Captain Marvel, set for release March 8th, 2019.
