Lando Calrissian has already returned to the Star Wars screen, but not in the way we remember him.
Played by Donald Glover, Lando Calrissian returned to the Star Wars narrative in the standalone Solo: A Star Wars Story and showed just what role Lando played at the start of Han's story as a smuggler.
However, now, it's rumored Billy Dee Williams may return in his role of Lando Calrissian for "Star Wars: Episode IX," which is currently in development. Seeing as how the character was made popular again with his reappearance in the standalone film, it wouldn't be too hard to see, especially given the connection he has with the Solos/Skywalkers, you know, fighting a whole war with them and what not.
If he comes back though, perhaps he may be an old connection who helps the Resistance establish itself. After all, Lando has many connections throughout the galaxy and has served as a leader during the Battle of Endor. Seeing as how there's little to no experience left amongst the current survivors of the Resistance, maybe this character can lends some wisdom to the budding group.
Besides all that, Lando would serve as the last human connection to the original trilogy that the sequel has, as General Leia's passing will be addressed and both Han and Luke's fates are sealed, though the latter could always return as a Force ghost like Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi before him.
It would be interesting to see him return, but only if he has a role to play in the story instead of a glorified cameo, because there's other interesting things Lando could be doing!
