No matter how many times Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, tell us comics character Adam Warlock will not be the key to defeating Thanos in Avengers 4, fans remain completely insistent the protector of the Soul Stone will make an appearance.

"[Adam Warlock]’s not showing up in our stories," said Joe Russo. "Our job as we said a million times is to tell the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not to do direct adaptations of the comics because we’re comic book fans.”

James Gunn recently went on Twitter to answer a lot of fan's Guardians questions, one of which also confirmed Adam Warlock will not appear in Avengers 4 or potentially Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, writing, "and I've never said he will be in Vol. 3."

Responding to a fan that asked why he put a teaser for the character at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 if he's not going to use the character in the final film of his trilogy, Gunn responded, "Because I love Adam Warlock and didn’t want him left out of the MCU entirely."

"I wanted to create a space for him that would have to be filled at some time," he continued. "Look at how long that first Thanos tease took to be fulfilled - and that turned out okay!"

He also answered other fan questions such as setting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to Smash Mouth, simply saying "No," and how he started the script for Vol. 3 after reading and giving notes for both Infinity War and Avengers 4.

He also assured a TMZ fan asking if he would kill Batman (who is part of the DC universe anyway and would never appear in a Marvel film) that no, he won't kill Batman in Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for a 2020 release date, with Avengers 4 set for May 3rd, 2019.
