Black Panther releases in four days, and there’s still so much to delve into before the movie even begins. Director Ryan Coogler recently revealed some of the challenges that come with making a Marvel movie and having to work within the confines of the franchise’s cinematic universe.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, Coogler reveals some of the alternate paths he would have taken with the cameos in Black Panther. “Being a Marvel fan, you want to grab all the characters. You realise there’s contractual things. You don’t have that character. There was a Christopher Priest run that was pretty heavy, there’s a big scene where Panther’s fighting Kraven, Kraven the Hunter.”

Kraven is a Spider-Man villain who first appeared in the comic books in 1964. He’s a common arch-nemesis, and has taken varied turns within the comics, though he has never appeared in the cinematic universe.

And that’s where Marvel drew the line. Unfortunately, weaving characters into the cinematic universe that hadn’t been introduced in the other movies moved that cameo to the back burner. On the bright side, maybe we’ll see Kraven in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2.
